northeast. here sunshine and rain. >> kind of mild for us for the weekend. >> it's going to be mild today. a temperature for a high coming in at 55 degrees. it's going to have that wind to the southwest and that's what's going to warm those temperatures up as we go throughout the day because we're not going to get that much sunshine in here. we're dealing with some rain across the area this morning. this will slowly but surely make its way out as we go through the morning hours but you are going to have a time of it this morning. you're seeing moderate and steady rain and kings charter, bel air, harper village and seeing maybe possibly some freezing rain across some areas. so be prepared for that. no matter whether you're getting the rain or the freezing rain, it's still going to be slick none thes will. we'll be -- nonetheless. let's get a check with traffic with lauren cook. good morning. we're off to a rainy start. if you are heading downtown, no delays on the jfx. fires and clear from -- nice and clear from the beltway to

east fayette street. everything up to speed at the tunnel. if you are traveling on the beltway, no delays right now on the west side. as we head over to parkville, this is what it looks like at harford road. no problems getting up to towson. here's a live look at 83. you're looking at just a normal 21-minute ride all together from the pennsylvania-maryland state line down to the beltway. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. over to you. time 4:32. happening today we'll get an idea the direction of baltimore mayor stephanie blake wants to take the city in 2013. one topic she's likely to talk about is the city's bleak financial outlook. last week a report came out saying that baltimore could accumulate a $745 million budget deficit over the next decade. if steps aren't taken now, the city could go bankrupt. we'll have complete coverage of the mayor's state of the city at 5:00 and 6:00 this evening. harford county residents are invited to give their

thoughts about the county's budget proposal. you can sound off tonight at aberdeen high school beginning at 6:00. anyone who wishes to speak should arrive 30 minutes early. that is to sign in ahead of time. the first lady of maryland wants to be the leading lady in anne arundel county. linda so is here to tell us about linda ehrlich's plans. does she really want to replace john leopold? >> reporter: she sure does. she wasn't expected leopold to resign so her decision to run came last week. she plans to use this week to figure out if she has the support of at least four council members. ehrlich says the mere fact she's a woman sets her apart. she wants to replace leopold who resigned earlier this month after he was found guilty of misconduct in office. leopold also faces several lawsuits from women who say they were mistreated and discriminated against while in

office. >> i think it's significant that i'm a woman. i think women in the county would breathe a big -- it would be a big breath of fresh air. >> the former first lady says she has no intentions to run for a full term in 2014. so far no one has officially applied for the vacated position. the deadline is friday. the anne arundel county chairman tells abc2 they've received phone calls from several interested candidates, looking another woman. still no word this morning on what caused a fire to break out. >> that story in just a bit but first at 4:34, a young woman is found dead inside her northwest baltimore home after a fire breaks out. police do not believe this was an accident. police are questioning a person of interest in this case. the woman was found on friday inside the burning home on high gate drive. police still have not released her identity. neighbors tell us they were suspicious whenner car was not

parked in its -- when her car was not parked in its typical spot. still no word on what caused a fire to break out in the area of towson. it started around 1:00 yesterday on the 1500 block of photo comes from the volunteer fire department's facebook page. more than 50 firefighters were on the scene. it took them an hour to get everything under control. no one was hurt gldz a baltimore man is behind bars arrested on murder and assault charges. one person was killed, two others injured during the shooting outside of the sas-s- ter international restaurant and club. $1 million, that's the amount the lapd is offering for information leading to the acrest of christopher dorner. dorner has been on the run now suspected of killing three people including a los angeles police officer. authorities also believe he's acting on revenge after being fired from that department four years ago. the daughter of a former police

officer was also killed as well as her fiance. a lot of people are still waiting up in the dark. more than 220,000 people and businesses in the northeast still do not have power following the huge blizzard. some parts saw up to 3 feet of snow when the storm blew through on saturday. airports in new york, boston and connecticut are slowly getting back up to speed. the governor of connecticut has urged patience as the cleanup continues. >> i know people are impatient but this is a record snowfall since our state has not seen since the 1880s. >> tap den saw the largest amount of snowfall, 40 inches. several states are still asking people to stay off the roads if they can till all the streets are plowed and treated. that's right where i live. that's not good. >> not good at all. cameras in hand, customers inside a store in mississippi watch as a huge funnel cloud

spun toward them. the tonders was part of a wave -- the tornado was part of a wave of severe storms that injured more than a dozen people. the twister traveled down main street ripping up homes, businesses and even the buildings at the university of southern mismiscampus. witnesses describe what they saw and heard moments after the skies went dark. >> i heard the sirens and everything looked okay outside. then next thing i know, all the lights went out and it got dark outside. i ran to the bathroom and i could hear all the noise outside. it was really a matter of within seconds everything changed. >> a tornado damaged parts after local high school and classes have been canceled for the day. some wild weather across the country. here it's been pretty tame. >> we have the rain out there this morning, guys. also the patchy fog. the southern states once again are going to get in on some

more severe weather. that is possible for today. as we check out what's going on, more to the north, well, the places that got the blizzard, they'll be seeing sleek, snow, freezing rain across the area. all we have is the rain going on this morning. we do have a heavy pocket of rain over harford county. this will continue through the morning. we'll get a break in the action but still light drizzle coming down as we go into the afternoon. visibility a big issue this morning. we can see only 4 in baltimore. 7 in easton and about 4 in hagerstown. one and a half around frederick this morning and two and a half in new york. so make sure you take it easy on the roadways. temperature wise, we are not as cold as we could be this time of the year. it's 36 degrees right now in again oak. hickory coming in at 32. shadyside 37 degrees. chester town 34. cambridge 39. these temperatures are going to soar into the 50s as we go into the afternoon. over to you. >> everyone is trying to dig out from a monster northeast blizzard we told you about this weekend. even the sheep were having trouble. it took hours for a farmer in maine to make a path for his

ice landic sheep. they were trapped in 3 feet of snow. the farmer had to ya a mini snow blow -- use a mini snow blower carving a path so the sheep could get out and get some exercise. a relaxing trip at sea has taken a turn. >> they're stuck in the middle of the gulf of mexico. why they're adrift and when they could make it back to dry land. here's something that will leave you feeling queasy. five miles and krispy kreme donuts. >> we're off to a rainy start but no delays at 97. i'll let you know what traffic looks like on 9 a and 695 -- 95 and 695 coming up on good morning maryland.

a carnival cruise ship is sitting off the coast of texas

without power now trying to get to port. a fire in the engine room cut electricity to the entire ship. they thought they would be home today but they're still sitting in the gulf. all the passengers are doing okay but one man whose wife is on the ship is telling a much different story. >> she was crying. they had no power. they have no running water. they have no way to use the bathrooms. >> carnival says the ship will be towed to mexico and the cruise line will range travel for all on board. everyone will get a full refund and transportation expenses. a sweet milestone in north carolina over the weekend. a record 8,000 people took part in the krispy kreme challenge. they ran two and a half miles to a store, ate a dozen donuts and ran back all under an hour. >> i hadn't done it before. i don't think it's going to feel very good but it's all for

players' tunnel and that's where they may have corralled him. that bird could weigh 33 pounds. >> it's gorgeous. all this rain this morning, it's such a dreary start to the morning. >> could it be affecting the commute? >> i'm sure a little later on. right now so far so good. not only do we have the rain, we're also dealing with the fog. patchy fog across the area. going to take it easy. you can see the 100% humidity. we have the temperature, the dew point the exact same. this is what we'll be contending w. as we look at the temperatures, the temperatures are well above average. arnold close to 40 already. 36 degrees in baltimore. they're pretty much all over the place. with that we do have rain out here right now. you can see it on the satellite and radar. the rain coming through. but also with that rain mixing in with a little bit of sleet and also freezing rain. speaking of the freezing rain, the further to the north you go, they do have a freezing rain advisory across that area. not here but we're still going

to be dealing with very slick conditions this morning. at the surface, this is what we're doing. we're waiting for this cold front to move through as we go through the rest of today. in the meantime we will have a southwesterly flow and that's what's going to warm these temperatures up into the mid- 50s as we go throughout the day. i'm not expecting too much sunshine today but if we do get sunshine with the southwesterly flow, temperatures will be well above the mid-50s i'm forecasting. as we look at the most accurate future trend, i put this into motion for you. you'll begin to see an area of high pressure build this just briefly for tuesday. then we'll be watching our next storm system to the south. i'll keep my eye on that we do have the possibility of maybe some rain-snow. but as of now, things looking dry, just cloudy. 31 degrees for tonight. gradual clearing and 45 by tomorrow. it will be continued breezy coming into the area. there's that chance for that rain and snow and our next system is on saturday watching that as well. let's get a check of the abc2 time saver traffic with lauren

serving lawmaker in the house of delegates. her caskets was laid in annapolis at her home church. she will be buried at the veterans cemetery. talk about reducing gun violence, vice president joe biden is heading to philadelphia to hold a round table discussion with law enforcement about overall gun safety. the light rail service heading into bwi airport is fully restored following a shuttle bus accident. a bus overturned yesterday hitting a pole holding overhead wires and that power to the light rail. three people suffered minor injuries. we'll find out today how many shark attacks were recorded in 2012. that report is released every year by the university of married. last year there -- of florida. last year there were 37 confirmed shark attacks in the united states. a 9-yard is teaching us about -- 9-year-old is teaching us about life. >> she lost almost everything in a fire but that's not stopping her from helping others. popular liquor store is getting a little less boozey.

asteroid will graze part of the earth on friday. it will not hit our planet but could disrupt cell phone service with the possibility of it hitting hundreds of satellites. if you're planning to claim an education credit on your taxes, now have a valentine's day. february 14 is the first day the i.r.s. will accept returns with the form 8863, the education credit form. when the filing season kicked off on january 30, the i.r.s. was still updating the system processing those forms. it's now going to be up and running by thursday and accepting the american opportunity tax credit and the lifetime learning credit. prices at the pumps are putting another hurt on your pocketbook. the average price for a gallon of gas has jumped a quarter in the past two weeks. in maryland we're paying about $3.59 for a gallon of regular unleaded on par with the national average. a popular distiller is serving up less than the booze. it's watering down its bourbon to meet the demand.

they're going to 45% volume to 42%. the company is insisting the bourbon will taste the same. consumers remain skeptical filling out tweeter and other social media sites to complain about the watered down booze. >> i'm just going to say those weren't the only complaints other heard. they're adding water to maker's mart? what? have that rain. it is moderate in some spots this morning around baltimore. we can zoom in, honey in -- hone in on where the actual areas are. ferndale, grand view park seeing some moderate, steady rain. around the lake as women. as this crosses the bay, we are getting to get it along the eastern shore, some of the yellows and oranges. in the meantime the kids heading out to school this morning, they're dealing with the foggy conditions. temperature coming in degrees. it's going to be wet. dress them accordingly. as they come home from school today, the showers will have subsided but the winds will pick up. temperature coming in at 55 degrees. it is going to be mild out there but with the breeze out of the southwest, you can knock the temperatures down a bit but still we'll feel a lot warmer than what we had. make sure you do bundle up as you step out and about this morning. let's get to traffic with lauren cook. good morning. don't want to forget the umbrella today. if you are traveling in howard county, though, no delays on interstate 70. it's nice and clear from

columbia pike all the way over to 695. as we check in and take a live look at the west side of the beltway, here at liberty road, normal conditions. you're looking at just an 8- minute ride on the outer loop from 795 down to 70. as we take a look at the other abc2 timesaver traffic drive times, the east side of the beltway, going to be in great shape. you're looking at an 11-minute ride from 95 up to 83. the inner loop will be nice and clear down to 95. no concerns on 95 in white marsh. just 14 minutes traveling southbound if the beltway all the way into the city. that's a look at your morning commute. over to you. the lcuno carrierringconnec0
